Photowalking Utah: Ogden

To Ogden
Originally uploaded by The Episodic Author

Our next Photowalking Utah event is this Saturday, August 16th. We'll be meeting at Union Station in Ogden at 5:30 pm. We'll be shooting in and around the station and then heading down 25th Street. Here is the complete discussion.

For those interested in taking FrontRunner up, the train leaving Salt Lake's Intermodal Hub departs at 4:25, arriving in Ogden at 5:25. It's about a half mile walk down the road to Union Station. Return trips leave every 8 minutes past the hour until 11:08. (Here's the full schedule.) A one-way FrontRunner ticket costs $6.00. An all day pass costs $13.50. So unless you're making side trips (e.g. transfer to Trax or buses), two one way tickets are less expensive.

Skill level is unimportant. Nor does it matter if you shoot a digital SLR, point and shoot, medium format film camera, camera phone or whatever. Come on out and join us and spend some time hanging out with other photographers and having a good time.

Hope to see you there!
Hmm, maybe I should finish processing the photos from last month's walk...

We're going to watch the hot air balloons launch at the Provo Freedom Festival this Friday the 4th. They start early so we're meeting at 6:30am. Here's a map to the launch site; the address is Fox Field, 1100 North Freedom Boulevard, Provo, UT.

Rain or shine, it's scheduled for this Saturday, May 24th starting at 5:00pm. We're meeting at the entrance to City Creek park on the north-east corner of State Street and North Temple.

Please leave a comment here if you plan on being there. As always, this is open to anyone with a camera regardless of skill level or equipment. We're an informal, non-competitive group looking to have fun with and learn from each other.

The Tulips are Coming!

This month's Photowalking Utah event is scheduled for Saturday, April 19th from 5:00 pm to closing at 7:00 pm. We'll enjoy the blooms of spring around the Gardens at Thanksgiving Point catching the evening light. This is right in the middle of the Tulip Festival. Hopefully, they'll be at the height of their glory.

Thanksgiving Point Gardens are located just off I-15 in Lehi. Click here for a map.

As always, this is for photographers of any age and skill level to come and enjoy taking pictures with other like minded people.

There is an admission fee:
Adults: $10.00
Child (Ages 3-12): $6.00
Senior (Ages 65+): $9.00
Tickets are available online.

Afterward, we'll be meeting afterwards for dinner at some place yet to be determined.

For commercial photography, they do have a fee and a form that needs to be signed. No arrangements in this regard have been made.

Photowalk Utah #7: Making Trax

Urban Art at a Trax station
Originally uploaded by hpebley3

This month's Photowalking Utah event is riding the east-west, University Trax line from the Medical Center stop to the Arena stop. We're meeting at the last stop on the east side adjacent to the Moran Eye Center. The Center has graciously given us permission to use their parking. We'll ride westward getting off at each stop, taking photographs and then catching the next train. At each stop, we'll have about 15 minutes to get the shots we want and get back to the station.

This ought to give us opportunities for a large variety of different shots: people, architecture, sculpture, environmental, neon. With the time constraints, we'll have to practice surveying the area, figuring out the shots we want, prioritizing them, taking them and moving on. I think this is going to be a blast.

If you're planning to attend, please leave a brief comment on this flickr thread so we can get a rough idea how many to expect.

Details:

Who: Photographers of all skill and age levels, from brand new shooters to seasoned pros. Our main goal is to get together and have fun.
When: Saturday, March 29th at 4:00 pm. Estimated time is 2 hours.
Where: Meet at the Medical Center Trax stop. Parking is available at the Moran Eye Center located at 65 Medical Dr.
Cost: The "roundtrip" pass is $3.50 and is good for Trax only all day. Passes are purchased with cash (no plastic) at automated ticket kiosks at the station; if you're using bills, make sure they're in good enough condition to be read by the machine. The machine does take largish bills but gives change in $1 coins. So you can give it a $10 (or $20 I think) but expect a pocketful of change when you're done. Other options can be found on the UTA fares page.

Hope to see you there.

Photowalk Utah #6: Remixing at the Moran

Bryan Jones has announced the next Photowalking Utah event. With it still being winter, this is another indoor venue at the John A. Moran Eye Center located on the University of Utah campus. It will be held on Saturday, February 23rd from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. Here's a map and here's a link to their contact page with TRAX and UTA info.

There are two items of interest at this event. First, the lovely and talented Ann Torrance will be giving a presentation on how to do a post-processing technique she calls a remix. It's sort of a photographic version of a DJ remixing a song. I'm really looking forward to this tutorial.

The second item of interest is the building proper. It's rumored to be architecturally interesting; which should be fun in its own right. But to further sweeten the deal, it sounds like we'll have access to some of the labs too. It's not every day one has the opportunity to photograph interesting scientific equipment.

Photowalking Utah events are a non-competitive time to meet with, learn from and enjoy the company of other photographers here in Utah. All ages, skill levels and equipment are welcome. This sounds like it's going to be another great time. Be sure to put this on your calendar and join us in a couple weeks.
